What: A catch-all for Newton as he realises he's been working too hard and then goes out to work hard on catching up on all the social stuff he's been missing because he's been working too hard. He then goes to check up on his robot babies and then back to the clinic to watch Godzilla to soothe his soul. Please, someone get him an intern. Or twelve.
Warnings: Newton should probably be his own warning.

[Drift knows where Magnus is coming from with the whole security issue at the base. But it still seems like a bit much to have the CONDOR agents announce their visits every time they drop in. At least the ones they’ve already met should get a pass.

Ultimately though, since Magnus decided that just having them send emails was enough, they’re getting off easy. And the system has its uses too. When he gets Newt’s message, Drift decides to take the opportunity to head to the main area of the base and introduce himself, seeing how they hadn’t had the chance to talk before.

He walks over towards Newt’s work station, and raises his voice cheerfully once he gets closer.]

Hey – Newt, right?

[Newt's tapping away at his tablet, trying to sift through some research notes one of his colleagues from MIT had just sent him for an opinion when Drift moves into the room. He glances up, blinking and taking in the unique anatomical differences this cybertronian has to the others he's met--it's fascinating really, they come in such a wide range of colours and sizes and shapes--and gives a gentle wave.]

That's me! Official CONDOR liaison or whatever, but Newt is just fine. I don't think I've met you yet, right?

No, not yet. Sorry I haven’t had the chance to say hi any sooner, but we’re finally settling in here at least. Ah, and you can call me Drift by the way.

[He kneels down beside the work station and looks it over curiously.]

Did you bring all of that with you?

Drift! Cool. [Newt puts his tablet down on the table, pulling his sleeves up as he admires the alien in front of him. It's really hard for him to not get misty eyed whenever he meets a new one. They were just way too cool.]

--Huh? Oh. Yeah. [he glances at the makeshift workspace.] Your stuff is kinda too big for me to use and since I'm gonna be here a lot I figured I should have something. Ratchet wouldn't let me get bean bags.

What? What does Ratchet have against bean bags?

[Not that he really knows what bean bags are. But if Ratchet doesn’t like them, there’s a pretty good chance that they're actually perfectly reasonable.]

If you’re not bringing them into his medibay, I don’t see why he should care.

I don't know man! [He gestures up pretty wildly.] He keeps trying to get me thrown out of the medibay. I'm pretty sure the only reason I have to take a Cybertronian medical exam to work in there is because he likes to piss me off.

[A Cybertronian medical exam? Really, Ratchet?]

Yeah, I think you hit the nail on the head. I’d talk to him about it, but trust me…it wouldn’t do any good. [Especially not if Drift’s the one bringing it up.]

[Newt laughs and shrugs.]

It's cool, dude. I mean, pissing off crotchety grumps is kinda my thing. It's fun! Right up until he puts me on a shelf I can't get down from.

[Drift grins. He has a good feeling about Newt, and not just because he gets a kick out of pissing off Ratchet.]

I think you and me will get along fine. If you ever need someone to bail you out, well…I don’t think I could get Ratchet to like me less if I tried, so I’ve got nothing to lose.

Oh man, really? [He laughs a little.] What'd you do? Or do I even want to know?

Probably not, honestly.

[He shrugs.

On second thought, there probably are a few things he could do to make matters worse between him and Ratchet…and going into details might do just that.]

He can seem harsh, but I’ve been putting up with it for years already anyway. So I can live with it. [Most of the time anyway.]

Yeah, you guys live millennia, right? [He smiles up at Drift.] Loads of time to figure out how to piss him off.

“Right, well. By now I’m sure you’ve noticed that’s not nearly as hard to figure out as…say...actually getting him to lighten up for a change.”

Yeah. Which goes back to my previous point about bean bag chairs. Does he seriously always have a stick up his butt?

Always.

All day, every day. At least, whenever I see him.

[he makes a whistle and folds his hands over his chest.]

Man, that's gotta be exhausting.

It can be, except it’s hard to imagine him any other way.

[Drift feels bad that basically all they’ve done is bitch about Ratchet since he introduced himself. Not exactly how he thought this would’ve gone, and he says as much to Newt.]

Sorry, I didn’t mean to turn this into a venting session. But I guess it is good to let some frustrations loose every now and then.
