ANOTHER OPEN LOG

Who: Sollux and anyone who could be in the Trailblazer dorms.
Where: Trailblazer dorms.
When: January 31st and onward, whenever is convenient.
What: Sollux finally ventures out of Karkat's room for little bits at a time, and typically makes messes.
Warnings: Sollux, mostly.

Oh.....kay? Uh. I get you were looking through my stuff, man, but, I don't know what you're talking about here. I don't think 'edit' is supposed to be used like that.

[He gently took the DS, looking it over and confirming it hadn't been scratched or anything.]

Did you want to play a videogame or something? Karkat said you liked electronic stuff right?

[He huffs, obviously frustrated with his inability to communicate. He bites his lip with his fang, crossing his arms around himself.]

I inspeck electronic. Learning electronic.

[One of his ears flicks upwards, confused. He's lingeringly silent for a moment, before he can't resist trying to ask.]

"Play a videogame"?

OH. Ok, you just wanted to check it out. I get that. You could have asked though, usually that's the polite thing to do, but you know, whatever. Anyway, yeah, videogames, they're uh, games on the computer I guess. You guys have those on Alternia right?

[He held up the DS, flipping open the screen.]

Yeah, one of the researchers from the Medabots Corporation gave it to me, since their kids weren't using it anymore. I don't have a lot of games but it's pretty cool. Here take a look.

[He hopped up on the bed so he was closer to eye level (man this guy is tall) and hit the button so the screen came on.]

[Sollux trills in his throat, humming something that sounds like it must be Alternian. Obviously the actual words aren't clear, but it sounds like something a troll might do when they are realizing something, or understanding. His expression doesn't really seem surprised when he sees the game come on.]

Videogame. Okay.

[He narrows his eyes at the screen, seeing if there are any English words that he can read. There are not. He looks down at Metabee.]

...You are computer?

[metabee]

[Ok wow that sounded pretty bizarre, but Metabee figures it isn't bad. There was way less buzzing this time so that's good.

Asking if he was a computer though kind of put him on edge though. It's a bit of a touchy subject.]

Er, yeah I guess. I mean, all us Medabots are kind of a special case, but yeah I suppose.

[The whole middle part of that doesn't make any sense to Sollux, and he furrows his brow in frustration.]

Electronic...alien?

[He almost sounds vaguely hopeful at that idea.]

[Did he mean alien as in not from earth or not from Alternia? Way to make this even more confusing.]

Uh. Yes?

[He frowns, furrowing his brow. He hates how he is never sure what the fuck is being said.]

Okay...

[He shrugs his shoulders, glancing away.]

Not seen you here.

[Metabee's a little relieved the conversation ended there, it isn't the end of the world if Sollux thinks he's an alien. He turns the DS off and gets off the bed to put it away.]

Yeah, well, you haven't really left Karkat's room since you got here so that make sense, dude.

[Sollux squints at him, his ears folding back a little.]

...Karkat.

[He's repeating the name like he's correcting the pronunciation. It's definitely different coming from Sollux - with a growl on the K and a trilling sound on the R.]

[Any nuance in the pronunciation was completely lost on Metabee.]

Yep, Karkat. Troll, short horns, shouts a lot. You're not having another amnesia attack, are ya dude? I think I'm supposed to report that stuff.

[nitrodamus]

[Sollux scowls a little, and shakes his head.]

No amnesia. I learned Karkat okay. Speak correct.

[He points at the DS again.]

More videogame?

Yeah, sure, dude. Just don't break it or anything.

[He turned the DS back on, holding it out for Sollux to take.]

I don't remember what game is in there, so if you want to try something else just let me know.

[Sollux flips the device around and gives it a very thorough examination before he starts to press buttons. It's comforting how similar of a configuration they are. He guesses fingers are fingers no matter what planet you're from.]

I'm good for videogames.

[He starts pressing buttons until it does what he wants. Its apparently some sort of platformer with a little red man.]

Where find?

[Metabee clambered onto the bed again so he could see was Sollux was doing.]

Wow, you got the hang of that fast. Ok, so, you need to go to the right and collect the gold coins. Don't touch the brown dudes or the turtle guys.

[He tapped the right side of the screen to show what direction to go.]

[He furrows his brow, like he's confused. Despite that, he seems to be following along in the game just fine.]

What are "dudes"?

[Metabee gave Sollux a long hard look at that one. The Medabot Corp. guys had tried and failed to get him to stop saying dude and he was prepared with all the explanations for this one.]

Dude is another word for person. It is slang, like, a less formal way of saying something. It means I am not a stiff and actually like to sound cool instead of like a stuck up engineer.

[Sollux misses a ton of words in almost every explanation Metabee gives - the robot doesn't seem to comprehend the idea of speaking slowly or carefully - but at least he understands the definition.]

Dude. You are dude? This are dude?

[He points at one of the mushrooms.]

[Metabee leans over to see what Sollux is pointing at.]

Close, but not quite, yo. I am a dude, that is not. That is a mushroom. It's a plant.

Dooo-dah.

[He hums the word to himself quietly, as if enjoying the sounds on his tongue.]

Mushrooooom.

["Ooo" sounds are not ones you hear a lot of in Alternian.]

Yep, that's a mushroom.

[He leaned forward more to watch the screen better.]

Man you got the hang of that really quick.

I'm good for videogames.

[He repeats the words, smirking a little bit in apparent satisfaction.]

I'm good AT videogames. That's what you're trying to say, dude. Watch out for the flying guys they should be coming up soon.

[He grabbed Sollux's shoulder for support as he pointed to the upper screen. The mattress wasn't exactly the most sturdy surface.]

Good at videogames...

[He mumbles the words, and tenses suddenly when Metabee braces against his arm. He shrinks down a little, but doesn't actually pull away yet. He looks up at top screen, leaning over a bit like he might shake the robot off.]

What? Guys? Stop.

...Oh khshxx.

[It takes a moment, but he realizes that Metabee is trying to point out the monsters coming up. He frowns in concentration, but he ends up handling the situation okay. Afterwards he gives the device an approving look.]

I like two. The two.

[He gestures to the two screens.]

[When Sollux starts buzzing again Metabee gets a little concerned. Oh, right, he doesn't like being touched. Someone mentioned that earlier. He quickly throws his hands up, leaning back onto the bed.]

Sorry dude, my bad. I forgot you don't like touching.

[He relaxes a bit when Sollux changes the subject. Apparently video games are a universal icebreaker.]

Yeah the dual screen is pretty cool, the older ones only had one. The new ones have two screens still, and they're bigger and the top one does 3D stuff. I've asked to get one but they'll only approve stuff like that for the group I guess. Like the xbox in the main room.
