come one come all to newts chop shop

Who: Newt Geiszler, Kit Peddler and YOU
Where: Newt's clinic in the shady part of China town that Newt sort of lives in.
When: Pretty much whenever. The clinic is open five days a week, and this is a catchall.
What: Newt's clinic is still open for all wayward aliens, robots and cyborgs to be seen to without questions for free. Kit is his rude secretary hacker who is also pretty good (better) at fixing up the cyborgs.
Warnings: Bullshit science and Newt is a warning on his own, but will update if medical stuff happens.

[there's a few thread-starters within, but please feel free to hit this up!! The clinic's location is easy to get a hold of for anyone who needs it and a google search of Newt will reveal that he's actually really great at what he does and has lots of credibility as well as 6 pHDs. Back and Post dating is fine, just let me know!]

Newt's excessively informal manner bothers him sometimes, but the thing about Baelheit is that as long as the work gets done, as long as Newt is on task and is doing his research and furthering Mintaka's interests, he doesn't care much about Newt as a person. He doesn't care much about Newt as a person period, although Baelheit finds it hard not to notice how...peculiar he is. He knows Miriel has taken notice as well.

"It's regarding your participation in our Cybernetics Division. Your work has been...quite fruitful already, I must say." It's a glowing compliment as far as Baelheit's commentary goes, really, and the way he's folding his hands on the desk in front of him and looking back at Newt with a slight tilt of his head would basically count as a grin from anyone else. He's just so intensely serious all of the time. "You have certainly lived up to your reputation, Dr. Geiszler, Mintaka Industries is not in the habit of wasting any potential, and we like to make full use of our assets here. In that vein, I'd like to offer you the opportunity to be fully involved in Mintaka's cybernetics research."

There's just the slightest hint of a smile on his face, and even though it looks strange on him. He places his hands flat on the desk, pausing momentarily, and then reaches for a datapad.

"The offer is yours to accept or reject, Dr. Geiszler, and before you give your answer I would like to inform you that what follows is highly confidential research. It is our cutting edge, right now. It belongs first and foremost to Mintaka Industries, but I feel that it would be a loss to us all not to invite a scientist with practical and theoretical strengths as particular and unique as yours onto the project. Only myself and Dr. Frost are privy to the entirety of the project; you would be working especially closely with the both of us."

"It is very serious, Dr. Geiszler, and I think I can trust you to treat it as such," Baelheit says with that solemn calm he always seems to carry, leaning forward with his arms resting on his desk. Note how he doesn't exactly answer the question. It's not all that important.

"Regardless, this is the reason we brought you on to our Cybernetics Division. Your expertise is singularly valuable, and could have profound effects on our research. It will require no more of a commitment than what you do now, but you will be considerably more hands-on with the research. Nothing so abstract as mere theory, you see. This is the current core of our research. And make no mistake -- this is critical research, however guarded a secret it may be now. Humanity is on the cusp of a new era...and if we work together, we can help to usher the world into it. We can become much, much more than we are, and you can be a part of that, Dr. Geiszler, in ways you would never have dreamed..."

Baelheit rises then, placing his palms flat on his desk, and the gaze he directs at Newt is startlingly piercing for a man usually so taciturn. Daimon whispers in his mind, urging him on.

"Dr. Frost and I had to be sure you could be trusted, that you could, indeed, commit yourself to the pursuit of knowledge and innovation on behalf of humanity...now, all that is left is for you to decide for yourself. What will you do, Dr. Geiszler?"

Baelheit doesn't smile often -- it's a rare sight, even for those close to him -- but he does now, just slightly, a faint quirk of his lips. He leans forward slightly, the rush of Daimon's voice in his mind climbing higher, knowing this will put them that much closer to their goals. To Baelheit's destiny.

"I assure you, Dr. Geiszler, you are hardly at risk of boredom here. We hired you because</> of your expertise on xenobiology, not in spite of it. Mintaka's primary field of research may be cybernetics, but you would be surprised where those two intersect. Suffice to say, this would present a thoroughly exciting research opportunity for the both of us."

Ah, finally. The smile hovers on Baelheit's face for a minute longer, his eyes gleaming with keen interest. Daimon is positively ecstatic.

"So I have your cooperation, then? You will work with Dr. Frost and I on this project?"

"Dr. Geiszler, please," Baelheit says evenly, though his eyes glimmer faintly with amusement, as though in on some private joke. "Although we may closely guard our assets and our research, Mintaka Industries has absolutely nothing to hide as far as the quality of our research goes."

Except, you know, his secret cyborg daughter, but whatever. As if Newt would ever find out about that, right.

As if. Yes. Right.

"I'll arrange for your clearance to be raised to full access shortly," Baelheit says, deeply pleased, although it shows only faintly on his face. "But I would like to brief you on the broad strokes of it now. As I know you must be aware by now, via your other lines of work, an alien race known as Cybertronians have established a presence on our planet. And as I am sure you have guessed, Mintaka Industries has, indeed, had contact with them.

"Several months ago, before their presence or even existence was widely known, I was contacted by a Cybertronian seeking medical assistance. I believe he was the first of their kind on this planet, and he was alone -- he had heard of my research in cybernetics and sought me out, hoping I would be able to assist in some way. His name was Starscream."

"Transformation cog malfunction," Baelheit answers, noting with pleasure Newt's rapt attention. He likes it best when Newt is focused. "The organ that facilitates their ability to change shape. He was modelocked -- stuck in his vehicle mode, unable to revert to his main form, as a result of a skirmish he had been in. He allowed me to examine him, to diagnose the problem, even operate on him -- all in exchange for some very valuable information."

Baelheit taps the datapad in front of him again, bringing up just a portion of the synth-en formula -- what will fit on the screen, anyway. "An unfinished formula -- one which Dr. Frost and I were able to complete ourselves, and to great benefit at that...it is the key to producing a synthetic version of energon, their native fuel, one we now have at our disposal. This formula, and the data I've collected from Starscream since, has led to the genesis of a new generation of cybernetic prototypes at Mintaka."

"Of course, Dr. Geiszler. You have been granted access to all project directories -- once you return to your office you'll be able to peruse them freely."

Baelheit laces his fingers together and leans forward, resting his elbows on the surface of the desk. "Not living tissue, not quite yet, no... For us, synthetic energon remains only an alternative, if highly efficient, fuel source, and the cybernetic designs are modeled after Cybertronian biology but they do not emulate it." Yet, anyway.

"What we do have, however, is a functional prototype based on the Cybertronians' natural ability to change shape...a transforming implant."
