Dr Newton Geiszler ([personal profile] kaijugrrroupie) wrote in [community profile] capitalh2014-08-15 11:09 pm

come one come all to newts chop shop

Who: Newt Geiszler, Kit Peddler and YOU
Where: Newt's clinic in the shady part of China town that Newt sort of lives in.
When: Pretty much whenever. The clinic is open five days a week, and this is a catchall.
What: Newt's clinic is still open for all wayward aliens, robots and cyborgs to be seen to without questions for free. Kit is his rude secretary hacker who is also pretty good (better) at fixing up the cyborgs.
Warnings: Bullshit science and Newt is a warning on his own, but will update if medical stuff happens.

[there's a few thread-starters within, but please feel free to hit this up!! The clinic's location is easy to get a hold of for anyone who needs it and a google search of Newt will reveal that he's actually really great at what he does and has lots of credibility as well as 6 pHDs. Back and Post dating is fine, just let me know!]

[Ratchet's eyes widen slightly, but he did ask for it, he supposes. And this guy did help Orion when they needed it. He sighs.]

That... depends on who you ask, obviously. But we came here to try and protect your planet from our opposition, who are not famous for their care towards organic life on whatever planet they happen to be on at the time, and we're certainly not here to cause trouble with any organics directly.

[He holds out a hand palm-up and shrugs a little, starting to answer Newt's questions in a show of good faith.]

How long we live depends on the bot in question, but we don't really have any degenerative diseases the same way most organic species do. We usually live until we break down somewhere with no materials or parts or ability to repair ourselves or until something happens that's irreparable. Some of us have been around for a very long time indeed. Our brains don't work like what little I've seen of your computers--it's more biology than technology. No, we do not have a 'brain internet,' we're individuals and we link directly to share data very seldom. Honestly, I'd probably be the one to do it most often, when it's necessary for medical procedures.

[Ratchet does lean forward again, leaning on the desk to look at the computer screen, his eyes widening slightly at the length of the document there. It would certainly be useful to know what the humans knew about them so far...]

If you wanted to give that to me, I can look it over and tell you if you're on the right track. [He leans back again, his voice mild.] It looks like you took some decent notes while you were repairing Orion.

Not any parts--the more Cybertronian-specific they are, the better they work. But I can make do. We're fully inorganic, but we have irreplaceable organs the same way some organics do--things we can't just build. T-cogs, brain modules, spark chambers. Others, sometimes. [He rubs absently at one wrist and continues patiently.] We can't just cobble anything together. We consume energon for fuel, and it's used to fuel most things of ours as well.

[He pauses, then looks down at Newt at that last, a new respect and not a little understanding flickering in his eyes.]

...yeah. He's going to be fine, given enough time to heal. [Ratchet looks at Newt for a long moment, deeply calculating, before he continues.] He's one of my oldest friends, even from before the war. ...thank you, for helping him.

[Ratchet's eyes widen a little for a moment before his face actually softens, the lines around his eyes and mouth easing slightly into something that's almost a smile.]

He's stubborn, yeah. He was a pain in the aft about getting fixed even after I got here. I can't count the number of times he's tried to walk out of my medibay with a repair half-finished because he decided there was something more important that needed doing. [He shakes his head, snorting a laugh.] But some of the repairs required specialized parts and tools that you couldn't have had access to anyway, so it's probably better that I finished up.

[Ratchet leans back a little, raising his eyebrows.]

You think so, huh? I said I'd help, not teach classes. Not my style.

I didn't say that. Absolutely nobody said that. [Ratchet's lip curls in alarm.] I said I'd answer a few questions because you helped Orion out, not take you on as some kind of... small, squishy apprentice.

You're the one who said you wanted to learn more. [Ratchet is sounding steadily more annoyed at this exercise in semantics.] What would you call it, then?
