OPEN LOG

Who: Sollux and ANYONE.
Where: Around downtown Los Angeles, whoops.
When: Twilight on January 28th.
What: Karkat makes the mistake of leaving Sollux alone in the TB dormitories, which results in Sollux fuguing out and having a wander and upsetting a lot of people.
Warnings: Mental trauma and probably references to body horror.

It's so loud in the empty dorms that it wakes Sollux up. Karkat isn't there, and he doesn't know how long it's been since he left. He doesn't even think about it. He doesn't care - reality outside of the present is only a faint glimmer in the back of his mind.

The voices in his head are loud and clear. The voices of the dead and the dying. They were more frightening before, when their deaths had been imminent and unavoidable. Now they just linger like pedestrians waiting to catch their ride out of town.

The light looks dimmer than before, outside. Night. He decides he wants to leave.

Sollux leaves the Trailblazer dormitories without thinking to put shoes on, and wanders without direction. His appearance and identity as a troll are unconcealed, with him wearing nothing but an oversized t-shirt and jeans. The metal plugs and machinery built into the back of his skull is fully visible, and for once, he isn't thinking about it. As is the metal collar around his neck. He's decided that he's going to go somewhere, and do something, and he doesn't know what.

His ears flick at sounds that remind something in his ancestral subconscious of prey. Humans who see him on the street react negatively, and when he shows minimal or defensive response, they become afraid. Alternians are never especially welcome, but with one acting like this, they have no reason to believe he's actually a citizen. Especially when the only language he uses are threateningly insectoid hisses and clicks that resonate unfamiliarly from his throat.

"Shit-!"

Apollo stumbles backwards, faster than should've been possible - he'd slowed time without even thinking about it, but only for a few seconds, just long enough to put a little more distance between him and the troll. The troll that seemed to be freaking out right now, which made it a great time for Apollo to remember that these guys were supposed to be dangerous.

"Okay, I'm sorry! No doctors, I won't call them, I promise!"

"Hey! You shouldn't... oh, great."

Apollo takes a few steps towards the commotion, trying to ignore the unpleasant shiver it gave him to hear all those insect-like sounds. At this point, he wouldn't have been overly surprised if the troll was about to spit bees at the guy. That probably wasn't how he liked his coffee... er, what was left of his coffee.

"Stay away from him!," Apollo calls out to the pedestrian. "He's having a bad night, just - keep your distance!" Now he moves closer to the troll, trying to catch his attention again, "Mr. Alternian! You're not in danger, okay? No. Danger."

Being shouted at in some strange alien language was more than a little frightening, but Apollo has also dealt with too many bullies and other hostile people to back down easily. It takes more willpower than it looks, and he's already starting an I'm fine! mantra in his head, but after flinching at first he squares his shoulders and then gives the troll a look of mild exasperation.

"I'm sure everything you said was reasonable and not at all insulting, but..." Apollo sighs, trying to think of words that would be easier for him to understand, "No one's going to hurt you. Okay? No danger. Where do you need to go?"

That the troll had calmed down was definitely some sort of progress. On the other hand, Apollo had no idea what to do with him. He wasn't about to call any paramedics if he was so adverse to the idea of a doctor, and he had a feeling that the police showing up would be a huge fiasco. There were a couple of detectives on the force that Apollo knew and trusted to do their jobs, but he also didn't have their numbers. Calling them up about a wandering troll just wasn't an option here.

"I'd like you to find your home," Apollo replied, again speaking a little slower than usual. Sure, he was still carrying around groceries, but... this was more important. "So that you can go and feel better. Help me find it, and I can help you go there."

That was one of the most dejected looks Apollo had ever seen on another living being, and that included clients that'd been accused of murder. It was heartbreaking to watch, but Apollo didn't let himself turn away.

Apollo briefly follows his gaze up, before looking back to him, echoing his words quietly. "You can't go home?" Okay, he... needed to use different terminology, it looked like. "Do you have a place to stay? Or a place that you sleep?"
