It's a pleasant evening at Ernest E. Debs Regional Park, just a couple miles from downtown LA, which can be seen through the haze. Late March means spring is just arriving in LA and the trees are just starting to bud. Unfortunately, the grass is still kind of dead and dry.

The barbecue and picnic area isn't too busy, though the park does have the usual assortment of joggers, dog walkers, and cyclists. There are some balloons tied to picnic tables, and strung between two trees is a very homemade "SUPER BBQ" banner, courtesy of Hulkling and Starbreaker. There's still glitter glue on Milly's apartment floor. There's another posterboard with the rules written on it in big bold sharpie letters nearby, just in case anyone forgets:

• Don't be a jerk!!!
• Keep your weapons holstered please.
• Do not trash the park!
• ABSOLUTELY NO FIGHTING
• Anyone caught fighting will be asked to leave!
• Really don't be a jerk!

"Yeah, I get this," Sollux says with a sigh. "But I didn't want to talk about it so much. I'm okay, but I like that you are normal for me, kind of."

[liberaition]

If she had better control over her cybernetic leg, Kit would kick Sollux.

"I know it's nice to have a sort of normal friend, but I could have helped. Who are you with now? You're not all alone, right? You know you can always come stay at my apartment, yeah?"

If she finds out he's sleeping on the streets or something she'll fuck him right up.

[nitrodamus]

"I'm with some weird guys," he says, a little defensively. "They are cool though, okay, it's okay. One is my good friend. But I might go anyway because you have cool things."

He leans over and conspicuously looks at her leg.

"You're different I think," he muses. "Did you get your hair smaller?"

Does this mean she'll have to tidy her apartment? Kit doesn't have a couch, but it'll be fine as long as they sleep in rotations. Of course, she'll have to move all the half built projects out of the bed, and maybe buy some food.

"I told you I was getting a new leg, remember? Three weeks, almost. It's almost healed." She wiggles her foot to show him. It's not very natural looking, but it definitely goes. "When it's healed I'll start writing software patches for it. Maybe you should introduce me to your cool weird guys."

Kit just can't help but feel a little protective of Sollux. CONDOR maybe wasn't treating him optimally, but she has to make sure he's not with TRIDENT or Haas's goons.

[nitrodamus]

"I remember," he says. "It's just...freaky, maybe." He squints at it a little more and then leans away. "I can show you weird guys maybe but...is secret." He leans in closer and says: "They're aliens."

[liberaition]

"It's fine. It will be just like my arm when it's healed." Kit raises an eyebrow, but she doesn't look all that impressed. "You're an alien, remember?"

[nitrodamus]

"Yeah, but they are secret aliens. I'm just a normal not secret alien." He knows he's not supposed to spread this around or anything, but Kit doesn't exactly work for the man herself. Also he knows she will think it's cool and he can't help it.

"They're robot."

[liberaition]

Now she's interested. "Robot aliens? Okay. Are they here?"

Kit can't help looking around. She hasn't seen anyone who looks like a robot alien, but they could be using some kind of disguise. Studying robotics from other planets could be invaluable to her own research, and she could bring Newt in on it too. Xenobiology meets robotics, the perfect melding of their favorite fields.

[nitrodamus]

"Maybe." He sits back. "But you can't just go at them, they don't like to share their...um...bodies. You would make them feel bad like it would make me feel bad if you went in me. I don't like it."

He's firm in his assertions there. He knows she loves robotics, but she's gotta respect their space.

[liberaition]

"Oh." Well. Okay. That's reasonable enough. "What if I only talked to them with my mouth and not my brain?"

Though the urge to mindmeld with an alien robot will be strong. She'll have to fight it.

"They maybe like that better," he says. "Maybe ask before. But. I'm not tell people. So...hmmm."
