Sleep had been evading Di these past couple of days. It was almost as bad as when she first began to travel with Signless, and had had to become accustomed to sleeping without the aid of sopor slime. The past four months were finally beginning to catch up to her. She had never had a chance to take a break to breath and let everything settle in. Her only way of really coping had been to throw herself head first into learning English and studying more about the history of Alternia and Earth that she had slept through. Which really, had only been a distraction and not a coping mechanism in the end. After meeting Karkat, Sollux, and having to come to terms with what Signless had become, Di was reaching her wits end.
It was the need for fresh air that prompted her to give up on sleep and get out. Being that humans were diurnal creatures, she had hoped that the city would be quieter and less crowded at night but if anything it seemed to come alive even more. Bright lights flashed everywhere she looked, people hurried from destination to destination, some carrying large cups in their hands or bags of food. Couples walked arm in arm, and she tried to find some solace in their happiness. It was the only really pleasing thing about this overly bright, overly deafening, overly crowded, busy, and congested city. Even disregarding the very important detail of her literally being misplaced in time and space, Di could not be more out of her element.
Eventually her feet took her to a quieter area of the city, not so flooded with ads and people and cacophony. An empty parking lot, belonging to an empty and surprisingly closed restaurant. Di wouldn't question it, just be grateful as she meandered into the lot, pulling herself to sit on the steps of the restaurant.
Di needed to figure out what to do. She didn't want to give up on Signless--refused to, but in doing that she jeopardized Karkat. No solution was coming to mind, but she'd sit here all night thinking if she had to.
Her mind whirled and she idly watched the occasional car race by, zooming to another destination far away.
