Not gonna lie, he had been hoping the sword would actually do some real damage rather than just making the thing angry. He's quick on his feet though, and he drops into a slide at the last second to skirt under the monster's hand and grab his sword, pulling it with him as he goes. No idea how good this thing's endurance is (better than he'd assumed so far,) but hopefully that should at least hurt it a little and give him a momentary advantage.
He realises too late that Milly's coming back in, so his shout of, "stay back--!" is kind of useless as things go.
