Teddy prefers to do hero stuff in the city, but an anonymous tip about a meth lab out here had come in, and he'd volunteered to check it out. It was probably nothing (most anonymous tips were fake), but it didn't hurt to be sure.
Growing up in the city doesn't give you a whole lot of experience with the desert. Teddy's mom had taken him camping a couple times in the state parks around Southern California, and he vaguely remembers some survival tips from the year he spent as a boy scout, but he feels a little lost with the constant noise of the city a mile behind him. At least the light pollution reached this far.
A slight rustle from behind startles him, and Teddy wheels around to face the noise. It's dark out here, but he can clearly see two glowing eyes staring out of the gloom.
"Hello?"
He really hopes he's not about to get eaten by a mountain lion.
